Sheamus is "the past," says WWE star, after his major loss
Sheamus may be low-key putting on match of the year candidates every time he is on television, but the former three-time WWE Champion is a thing of the past, believes Pete Dunne. To be more specific, of his past.
Pete Dunne picked up a huge win, albeit controversial, over the Irishman this past Monday. His first since the two began feuding. According to the Bruiserweight, the veteran is no longer relevant to him.
Speaking on RAW Talk after the upset win, Dunne stated that he hopes to never hear The Celtic Warrior's name again, basking in the glory of a noteworthy victory on the company's flagship show:
"I’m absolutely buzzing. I finally got that Irish muppet off my back, and I hit him with a Brogue Kick. What a way to do it. Sheamus, he’s in the past. You know the best bit about it? I don’t think I ever have to hear that name again," Dunne said. [H/T: Fightful.com]
It remains to be seen what is next for Pete Dunne, who was forced to begin singles run after his New Catch Republic tag team partner, Tyler Bate, got sidelined owing to a torn pectoral muscle. Bate is not expected to be back in the ring until 2025.
Sheamus draws comparison between Pete Dunne and AEW's Bryan Danielson
Early on in The Celtic Warrior's career, Bryan Danielson, then Daniel Bryan, was a significant opponent. It is their battles that made his World Heavyweight Championship reign. As for Bryan, their feud catapulted him to massive popularity following his 18-second loss to Sheamus at WrestleMania 28.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show after defeating Pete Dunne on RAW in August, the Irishman recounted his matches with Bryan Danielson, stating that the latter and Dunne have a similar "creative mind" and "aggression":
"One of the things that set me off in my career, after I had gone through John Cena, Randy and Hunter, and all that, I went in with Daniel Bryan. Bryan Danielson. It was great. And I see the same traits in Pete Dunne because he's got a great creative mind, but he's also aggressive. He just needs to let go, and he let go on Monday night. It was awesome," Sheamus said.
Former WWE writer Vince Russo reviewed RAW as always following the show. He feels that fans would not care anymore for four-time World Champion as the latter has suffered a loss to Pete Dunne already.
