Shots fired at Drew McIntyre and CM Punk by veteran for dangerous spot at WWE Bad Blood that could have "paralyzed" them: "I don't know how"
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk had a thrilling match inside Hell in a Cell at WWE Bad Blood. Former WWE manager Jim Cornette liked the war the two superstars went through but was critical of one dangerous spot.
For the third straight premium live event, McIntyre and Punk faced each other in a match with a stipulation. They had one win each heading into Bad Blood, with The Scottish Warrior winning at SummerSlam with Seth Rollins as the special guest referee and The Second City Saint getting one back at Bash in Berlin in a Strap Match.
After a back-and-forth battle, Punk prevailed to beat his bitter rival and win his first feud back in WWE. Jim Cornette liked the match but pointed out the danger of using the steel steps that could have paralyzed anyone if things went bad.
"As (Drew) sat on Punk's head and went for the Claymore, Punk moved out of the way and the stairs were sitting in the ring. Drew landed back first on the stairs and I don't know how somebody hasn't paralyzed themselves on these stairs before. They make me nervous because those sharp edges and the hard edges," Cornette said. [12:30 - 12:52]
The spot Jim Cornette was talking about happened when Drew McIntyre missed the Claymore and landed on the steel steps. It allowed CM Punk to take control of the match and get the victory after a Go To Sleep.
CM Punk spending more time at WWE Performance Center
After Bad Blood, CM Punk announced that he would be taking a break to recuperate from the beating he took during the Hell in a Cell match. Punk has also been spending more time at the WWE Performance Center, which was a way of giving back.
Here's what Punk said in an appearance on the No Contest Wrestling podcast:
"I go home to my wife just completely humbled and emotional about it. I woke up one day and I was this dude. When kids come up to me and they're comfortable enough to be like, 'Hey, look at this,' and it's a picture of them when they're little at an autograph signing and they tell me, 'Hey, you inspired me to do this.' It's just like me getting to tell Roddy Piper, 'Hey, you're the reason I did this,' and I don't know if it meant anything to (Piper), but it meant something to me to be able to tell him that," Punk said. CM Punk most recently served as a special guest referee in the match between Trick Williams and Ethan Page for the NXT Championship.
