Stephanie Vaquer sends two-word response to WWE announcement
Stephanie Vaquer has officially arrived in WWE. After a viral signing this past week, the fan-favorite quickly made her official debut for the company. She's now issued a response to a post-debut statement from her new employer.
La Primera's big decision was one of the most-talked-about wrestling stories from the past week. After reportedly receiving offers from both WWE and AEW following her Forbidden Door loss to Mercedes Moné, Vaquer cited personal reasons in leaving CMLL and NJPW, while still the former's World Women's Champion and one-half of the Women's Tag Team Champions. The 31-year-old then signed with WWE, and AEW officials were reportedly not happy with how things went down.
After being welcomed to the WWE family by Shawn Michaels, Vaquer was announced for the Supershows in Mexico this weekend. She made her official debut on Saturday's show in Mexico City, defeating Women's Tag Team Champion Isla Dawn.
The former Dark Angel received strong reactions at Saturday's show in Mexico City. The company tweeted a clip of fans cheering during the entrance of the 15-year veteran from Chile, who also holds Mexican citizenship. Vaquer responded to the welcoming message.
"WWE family [red heart emoji] [fire emoji]," Stephanie Vaquer wrote.
Vaquer is also scheduled to compete at tonight's non-televised live event in Monterrey, Mexico.
AEW star on reactions to Stephanie Vaquer signing with WWE
Stephanie Vaquer left CMLL and NJPW this week to sign with World Wrestling Entertainment. The top talent also had an offer from AEW, but she went with the competition instead.
As soon as Vaquer's signing was confirmed, sources began reporting that AEW officials were not happy with the decision. While some said All Elite officials were upset at how the deal went down plus how it might impact the working relationship between AEW, CMLL, and NJPW, according to Fightful Select, others claimed the anger was due to AEW missing out on adding Vaquer to its roster.
AEW's Thunder Rosa addressed the situation on Busted Open Radio, and confirmed that people were upset.
"I was not even expecting that. I didn't even know that was happening and I think a lot of people were kind of caught by surprise. It's been a rollercoaster of comments and emotions from fans and other people. She is a great talent, as you guys saw recently here in AEW. I think everything happened so fast because she was presented at AEW on a humongous platform and then she had a match with Mercedes Moné, then next week, she like signed with WWE," Thunder Rosa said.
Rosa continued and reiterated how people were not happy with the signing. She talked more about reactions to Vaquer's loyalty.
