Surprising winner in Triple Threat WWE Crown Jewel match could set up an exciting future, feels Freddie Prinze Jr.
Crown Jewel is just a few days away, and a handful of WWE stars could leave the PLE with new possessions. When it came to the US title match, Freddie Prinze Jr. felt WWE would book Carmelo Hayes to pull off a surprise win.
The trio have been feuding over the United States Championship in recent weeks, with Andrade and Carmelo Hayes putting together an impressive series of matches. Their performances were enough to warrant an entry into the US title picture, where LA Knight has been dominant.
At Crown Jewel, Knight will defend his championship against both Andrade and Carmelo Hayes and Freddie Prinze Jr. believed it was the perfect time for WWE to take the 'big swing' on Hayes. The former writer stated that after Carmelo Hayes wins the title, LA Knight could be freed up for bigger storylines:
"I think they are going to give Carmelo Hayes a big-time swing. I think this is going to be the moment. I think he will win at Crown Jewel and he will get the win over Andrade, which puts him technically as the best of seven, even though they didn't get to finish the seven. Then he gets to wear the title and then they can move on with LA Knight. He could have whatever major story." [From 5:51 onwards]
Freddie Prinze Jr. doesn't think LA Knight needs a title to be a top WWE star
After a few hard-fought attempts, LA Knight finally got his hands on a championship in the WWE when he defeated Logan Paul at SummerSlam.
While the victory was well-deserved, Prinze Jr. noted that LA Knight no longer needed a belt to be relevant. The world championship was still incredibly prestigious in the WWE and could be something LA Knight pursues, but for now, the US Championship could benefit by being around Carmelo's waist.
Freddie Prinze Jr. explained:
"I don't think LA Knight needs a title now that he's won one to be a star. I'm not saying he is bigger than the world title, but he is bigger than the title he is carrying right now, whereas Carmelo is not." [From 6:12 onwards]
Prinze Jr. enviosned the Triple Threat showdown to be the match of the night at Crown Jewel and it would be intriguing to see if, as he predicts, Carmelo Hayes wins his first main roster title.
