Ted DiBiase Sr. reflects on WWE veteran Virgil's death in a heartfelt message
Michael Jones, widely known to WWE fans as Virgil, sadly passed away earlier this year at the age of 61. Virgil made a name for himself in the WWF during the 1980s and 1990s and later joined WCW in 1996.
His most notable run in WWF was as Ted DiBiase Sr.'s on-screen bodyguard. This partnership eventually led to a heated rivalry between the two, even resulting in a match at WrestleMania 7. Virgil defeated the Million Dollar Man via count-out on that occasion. Recently, DiBiase responded to a post on X/Twitter about Virgil's passing. He expressed his sadness and paid tribute to his longtime friend.
"So sorry to hear about Mikes death. Rest in Peace my friend," Ted Dibiase Sr. wrote.

However, this led to some fans quickly speculating that DiBiase had only just learned about Virgil's death months after it occurred. The WWE Hall of Famer clarified that he had been aware of Virgil’s passing earlier in February but was simply reflecting on the loss.
"I meant to say I was so sorry to hear about Mikes death. I know it was last February," he wrote.
Former WWE Superstar paid his tributes to Virgil
In 2019, Virgil began making appearances on AEW television under the name Soul Train Jones as an ally to Chris Jericho and the Inner Circle. During his run, he delivered a memorable video package mocking Cody Rhodes, a segment that was widely praised by fans.
Following Virgil’s passing, former WWE Superstar Chris Jericho took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute. He referred to Virgil as an honorary member of the Inner Circle and revealed that he had even tried to book him for the Jericho Cruise in the past. Jericho expressed his sadness at the loss and stated that Virgil would be deeply missed.
"Sorry to hear about the passing of @realvirgil Mike Jones. During the early days of @aew, we used Mike (aka #SoulTrainJones) multiple times in the #InnerCircle story and he was essentially an honorary member…I even tried to book him on the @jericho_cruise and was gonna ask him again for next year. Always a character and always a good cat, Mike (aka #Virgil) will be missed. Here’s to ya Soul Train…having a Lil bit of the bubbly and a few @olivegarden breadsticks in your honor!" he wrote.
Team Sportskeeda extends its condolences once again to Virgil’s family and friends.
