"That was bad TV" - Ex-WWE writer clarifies his stance on Jey Uso's promo on Monday Night RAW (Exclusive)
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about Jey Uso's first promo after winning the Intercontinental Championship. The former Bloodline member defeated Bron Breakker to win the title.
Uso was very emotional as he cut a promo on the September 30 edition of RAW. The star spoke about his steady rise from being part of a tag team to winning his first-ever singles title as the crowd chanted, "You deserve it." Russo was not impressed back then as he felt Jey was too emotional about winning a title that was merely a prop.
This week on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Russo clarified his stance. He stated that he wasn't against the decision of Jey Uso winning the title. However, the former writer was not a fan of the emotional promo. Russo felt that, as a television critic, it seemed like a bad utilization of TV time by WWE.
"What I was referring to was his promo after he won the title. He was so emotional he could barely get a word out. As a television critic and a critic of the show, what I said was that was bad TV. And I stick to that. That was bad TV. And me saying that the titles are props, I've been saying that for the last 30 years. That's not new." [11:55 onwards]
Jey Uso is still dealing with former champion Bron Breakker. The second-generation star attacked Jey last week after gaining his trust. The two are still at odds over the IC Title.
This week, Breakker destroyed Kofi Kingston in a singles match and then started a post-match beatdown. However, Jey Uso rushed to the ring just in time to stop the beating and hit a vicious Spear on Bron.
