"That's my brother" - 20-year-old WWE star reveals surprising details about relationship with NXT Champion Trick Williams
NXT Champion Trick Williams has won over the WWE Universe with some great performances in the ring. A current challenger for his title recently opened up about his relationship with the champion. That would be Je'Von Evans.
Trick Williams worked in Carmelo Hayes’ shadow for most of his NXT career. However, he gained enough momentum to become a breakout star and send Melo packing to the main roster.
Whoop That Trick will defend his NXT Championship in a Fatal Four-Way Match at NXT Heatwave 2024. One of his challengers, Je’Von Evans, talked about his relationship with Trick on the Under The Ring podcast.
"That's my brother. From my tryout, [when] I came, I went to him and shook his hand, I thought he wouldn't know who I was. He was like, 'I know who you are, bro. Just do you.' Ever since then, it's honestly just been, you know, we're close. I ask him for advice and he asks me for advice," Je'Von Evans said.
The 20-year-old WWE star was surprised to know that Williams knew who he was. He also stated that Trick Williams has been extremely supportive of him and thinks that his time is going to come soon.
"And his reign, it's been good to me. He's been fighting for that title, and once he won it, everybody was happy in the back, and I gave him a hug, and I was like, 'It's your time,' and he was like, 'No, it's your time,' or [like], 'Your time is about to come.' I said, 'It's not about me right now. I want you to enjoy this,'" Je'Von Evans said.
Rivals usually stay in character and follow the storyline during interviews so they do not spoil the relationship they share on-screen. However, Evans’ surprising revelation regarding his relationship with the current NXT Champion shows how many kind-hearted WWE Superstars want to see others grow around them.
Trick Williams looks like a future star for WWE
Carmelo Hayes made the NXT Championship prestigious after a great reign. Ilja Dragunov held it for a short reign before Trick Williams won it from him.
Hayes and Dragunov have already moved to the main roster where they are performing against some of the biggest names in the industry. Melo was even blessed with the opportunity to pin Randy Orton on a recent edition of SmackDown.
Trick Williams could follow in their footsteps soon as he is another star who is held in high regard by many in the wrestling circle. WWE fans could see him drop the NXT Championship at NXT Heatwave 2024 without taking the pin to stay on top.
After a short stay on the white and gold brand, Whoop That Trick could be moved to WWE's main roster post-SummerSlam where he could get some big title matches against top names.
