"The best thing WWE did" during Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes' SmackDown segment detailed by Hall of Famer
Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes are set to team up at WWE Bad Blood. Last week's SmackDown aired a cinematic segment featuring the two top men, and Hall of Famer Bully Ray commented on the best thing the creative team did through it.
Roman Reigns will return to the ring for the first time since his loss to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. Surprisingly, the OTC will team up with the man who defeated him for the biggest prize in WWE.
Friday Night’s SmackDown aired a promo shot on the gridiron of Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium. Reigns and Rhodes arrived in style for the segment and delivered powerful performances that made their match against The Bloodline more interesting.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray talked about how the company did well not to host the segment in an arena.
"What was there not to love about it?" Bully asked. "The way Roman pulled up, the way Cody pulled up, the way they met in the middle of the field. What being in that particular place at that particular moment in time meant. What the city meant. Everything about it was awesome. Deep-rooted storytelling. The best thing the WWE did was not have that face-to-face happen in an arena."
The crowd's cheer could have watered down one of the two men featured in the promo—Cody Rhodes was the main target. According to Ray, it was the right call to have it shot at Georgia Tech's Stadium for maximum effect.
"If this promo would've happened in an arena, you guys tell me who would've been cheered and who would've been booed." [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
At the end of the face-off, Roman Reigns made sure that Cody Rhodes knew he would come for his title sooner rather than later. WWE has many upcoming premium live events that could host a rematch between the two top men of the company.
Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes might find it hard to work together at WWE Bad Blood
The rivalry between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes lasted nearly two years. Rhodes won two Royal Rumbles and main evented WrestleMania twice to beat The OTC for the title.
Their partnership at Bad Blood will raise a few eyebrows, as Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu will do everything in their power to exploit their differences. It would be great to see one of the two men mistakenly attack the other to ensure they continue their rivalry.
Meanwhile, WWE could give the dream team a loss at Bad Blood, so Roman Reigns has to assemble a team to take on Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline at Survivor Series: WarGames.
