"The devil is real" - Former WWE champion seemingly takes massive shot at CM Punk
CM Punk has been doing a phenomenal job since his WWE return. A former champion seemingly took a shot at The Best in the World days after he potentially finished his rivalry with Drew McIntyre.
'All Ego' Ethan Page has been doing a fine job in WWE NXT since his debut. He quickly won the NXT Championship, before dropping it to Trick Williams in a match officiated by CM Punk. Page hasn’t forgotten the GTS Punk handed to him after the contest. He even visited Punk’s home brand RAW and met with Adam Pearce.
On the latest edition of NXT, Ethan Page defeated Je’Von Evans and Wes Lee to emerge as the number one contender for Trick Williams' title. After his win, he gave a backstage interview where he used CM Punk’s infamous ‘Devil’ line from his time back in Ring of Honor.
"Number one contender, huh? Not too fond of that. Everyone else in this locker room would die to be called number one contender. Not me. I was so used to being called champ or the champ or champion. Face of the brand, even. Hell, I was walking around saying ‘Era of Ego’ and ‘NX-Me.’ I plan on bringing all of those back to the repertoire, and it will happen. It’ll happen right after Devil’s Playground at Halloween Havoc. Some jackass once said, ‘The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was making you believe he didn’t exist.’ Tonight, I think I made Trick a believer. I promise you, the devil is real," Page said. Page and Williams will compete in the Devil’s Playground match at WWE NXT Halloween Havoc. It would provide Ethan Page a chance to extend his Era of Ego by winning back the title.
CM Punk could cost Ethan Page another match in WWE NXT
The rivalry between Ethan Page and CM Punk could steam up, especially after the former fired shots at the latter this past Tuesday. Punk is not one to sit back and listen to anyone’s comments without taking action.
WWE could bring The Best in the World to NXT for a couple of matches in hopes of boosting the show’s ratings on CW Network. CM Punk has already expressed his willingness to associate himself with the developmental brand a bit more.
A rivalry between Page and Punk would help bolster the show’s ratings and also give the latter a much more relaxed rivalry after his blood feud with Drew McIntyre. WWE fans can expect The Second City Savior to cost the former NXT Champion his Devil’s Playground match at Halloween Havoc.
