"The same old, same old" – WWE veteran left unimpressed by RAW segment (Exclusive)

Another RAW episode is in the books, and it opened with an explosive segment in which Damian Preist attacked Cody Rhodes' ankle with a chair. While reviewing the show on Legion of RAW, Vince Russo said the angle didn't do much for him as it featured the same faces that open the show on a regular basis.

Finn Balor and Damian Priest kicked off RAW to celebrate regaining the undisputed tag team championships. Cody Rhodes interrupted the proceedings, and it eventually ended up in a situation where the American Nightmare struggled to overcome the numerical advantage against The Judgment Day. Jey Uso and JD McDonagh showed up during the chaotic segment, which concluded with Damian Priest hitting Cody Rhodes in the ankle with a chair against the steel steps.

Vince Russo was not impressed by what he'd seen and revealed how lackluster the opening segment was by comparing it to an Attitude Era show. Russo reviews old shows on his YouTube channel every week, and this week's episode was pretty star-studded and packed with epic narratives involving Mr. McMahon, Steve Austin and The Undertaker.

The stories and superstars in 2023 are nowhere close to the programming WWE put out in the past, and it might be due to the bland repetition, as Russo pointed out below:

"Am I supposed to comment on this (laughs)? Let me compare this to my Attitude Era review today, okay? This is the week Vince McMahon is going to receive the 'Humanitarian of the Year' award, and has invited Stone Cold Steve Austin to the ceremony. At the same time, Taker is very upset and chokeslamming whoever gets into the ring. And it all accumulates to a big finish at the end of the show. Do you want me to compare that to this? Oh, bro. This is just the same old, same old, bro. We've seen the same people open the show for God knows how many weeks, man." [5:50 – 6:52]

WWE announced a huge Crown Jewel match for Cody Rhodes on RAW

The former AEW star has been a featured talent and one of the top babyfaces on RAW, and this week's show revolved around his issues with The Judgment Day, specifically Damian Priest.

Damian challenged Cody to a one-on-one match at Crown Jewel, and the American Nightmare didn't hesitate to accept. As noted above, 'Señor Money in the Bank' viciously assaulted Rhodes and even faced Jey Uso in the main event of RAW. Priest used a distraction from Balor to pick up a massive singles win over Main Event Jey.

The episode, however, ended in favor of the babyfaces as Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes cleared the ring and celebrated with the fans.
