The problem with New Day split after decade-long run in WWE; Veteran discusses
Xavier Woods recruited Kofi Kingston and Big E after the latter two racked up several losses on WWE RAW back in 2014. Originally a babyface trio with a gospel gimmick, The New Day was rejected by fans.
This led to them turning heel, which resulted in them becoming the longest reigning tag team champions in the company up until that point, and the rest was history. Kingston and Big E went on to become WWE Champions as well while still associated with The New Day. This aspect forms the genesis of Karrion Kross' crusade to end the popular stable.
Big E has indicated that he will not return to in-ring competition anytime soon following a career-ending neck injury he sustained in 2022. Instead, he has considered other ways of making a return. Meanwhile, Kingston and Woods have retained their run as the iconic New Day.
Looking into the duo's rivalry on the red brand with The Final Testament, Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer recently predicted that WWE is slowly building towards The New Day's split.
"I mean, nothing lasts forever in WWE," Meltzer remarked. "Here's the problem, though, if you break them up neither of them are gonna do much."
Xavier Woods has not won a singles title yet in WWE. Although in the storyline The Doomwalker is known to be manipulative, he has a point in the case of New Day, which has made this angle very compelling.
It will be interesting to see whether the iconic group of the last decade ultimately goes their separate ways. Sportskeeda Wrestling will update as Monday Night RAW airs live tonight from Boston. The build-up to New Day's demise continues on the flagship show.
Will Karrion Kross break the glass ceiling in WWE?
Wrestling legend Jim Cornette believes Karrion Kross is more hurt from his latest run in WWE than his first stint. The Doomwalker has lost every feud he had been part of from 2022 to 2023. However, The Final Testament's introduction in January 2024 was a breath of fresh air.
Kross and clan have not yet made an impact on television, although they were all able to make it to the WrestleMania card this year for the first time in their careers.
The New Day is beloved in the eyes of fans and they have been together for so long that if Triple H and Co. play their cards right, Karrion Kross being the perpetrator of the iconic duo's split could benefit him.
Karrion Kross had a noteworthy run in NXT between 2020 to 2021. During this time he held the NXT Championship twice. Kross believes these reigns, especially the second one, have helped him understand what it takes to become a world champion on the main roster.
