The Rock delves into his deep WWE connection; cites reason for recent returns
The WWE Universe welcomed The Rock back almost one year ago for a historic comeback storyline that still affects today's happenings. With a return likely coming up in the near future, The Rock has commented on working for Vince McMahon, being forever grateful, and helping WWE grow.
The Great One signed a historic WWE deal earlier this year, which returned ownership of his iconic name, included a lucrative licensing agreement, and offered Rock a seat on the TKO Board of Directors. He returned to the ring at WrestleMania 40 and is still seemingly in an active program with Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns of The Bloodline.
The Final Boss previously said he always goes back to World Wrestling Entertainment to help expand the company any chance he gets, as that's part of his obligation that he happily does. In an interview with LADbible, Rock touched on being forever grateful to WWE, and what it meant to take a seat on the TKO Board of Directors.
"I came along in the 90s and wrestled for Vince [McMahon] into the 2000s, so there’s some real connective tissue that goes back generations, and for that, I will forever be grateful, because it provided me a platform and a way to express myself in ways that nothing else would allow, other than acting. So, the opportunity for me to become a director, sit on the Board, take that position, is just another way that I could help the company grow," The Rock said. [Credit: LADBible]
The Rock is a 17-time WWE champion. He was the company's sixth Triple Crown Champion, the 2000 Royal Rumble winner, and a 10-time Slammy Award winner.
WWE star has unfinished business with The Rock
Several current superstars on the World Wrestling Entertainment roster have mixed it up with The Rock in recent years. Austin Theory was taken out by The Great One on the September 15, 2023, edition of SmackDown. The Rock had returned to assist Pat McAfee.
Theory recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet and reminded everyone how he and The Rock have unfinished business to handle.
"The real movie is Theory vs. Dwayne - that's the real one. And we still got some unfinished business," said Austin Theory. [26:53 onwards]
Theory recalled how he actually met The Rock on the sets of Fast & Furious. After taking the People's Elbow, Theory is still hoping for a singles match with The Final Boss somewhere down the line, but it looks like a long shot.
