The Undertaker didn't face 16-time WWE champion at WrestleMania for a major reason
The Undertaker faced many big names at WWE WrestleMania events throughout his illustrious career. A 16-time champion recently opened up about his scrapped match against The Phenom at The Show of Shows.
The Undertaker became a household name during his wrestling career and took the industry by storm. He retired as one of the most decorated superstars of all time. The Hall of Famer hung up his boots in 2020 following a Boneyard match against AJ Styles.
Speaking on his 1 Of A Kind podcast, Rob Van Dam (RVD) reflected on the possibility of a marquee match that could have bolstered his WrestleMania record. The 16-time WWE champion boasts a perfect WrestleMania streak of 4-0.
RVD noted that he was discussed for a match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania early in his career. However, that match was scrapped because certain people did not think that he was over enough to face The Phenom at The Show of Shows.
"I was told at one point when I was first there in WWE getting one of those first momentum rides. There’s a story that they were thinking of putting me in WrestleMania, maybe it was against The Undertaker, I’m not sure. It sounded like a main event spot or at least a really high on the card spot, and said party said, ‘No he’s not over enough.’" [H/T TJR Wrestling]
Van Dam accepted the decision as he realized the high stakes involved in facing someone with a top reputation. He continued to become a big name in WWE and went on to win 16 titles on different brands, including the WWE Championship (1), the Hardcore Title (4), and the Intercontinental Title (6), among others.
The Undertaker believes Logan Paul elevated the United States Championship in WWE
Logan Paul had a lengthy run with the United States Championship that lasted over 270 days. However, The Maverick only defended his title three times and even challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Title while holding the US Championship.
Speaking on the IMPAULSIVE podcast, The Undertaker noted that he was very impressed with Logan’s work with the title. He added that The Maverick made the title relevant by taking it to different media outlets.
"What you’ve done with your platform for that title was been very impressive. You’ve actually made that thing mean something again, and you had it for what, over a year? What you did and all the places that you go, and you’ve got that belt, man, that’s next-level commitment, and that’s made that belt relevant again," The Undertaker said.
It’s great to see a legend appreciate the efforts of upcoming stars who are making it big in the industry. Paul lost the title to LA Knight at SummerSlam: Cleveland 2024.
Many believe that Logan Paul has the potential to become a future world champion in the company. He could go after Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship at a show in Saudi Arabia.
