The Undertaker reveals WWE segment he disliked filming
The Undertaker was one of WWE's top stars in the 1990s. In a recent podcast episode, the wrestling legend recalled how he did not enjoy filming cemetery segments after the 1994 Royal Rumble.
The Phenom unsuccessfully challenged Yokozuna for the WWE Championship in a Casket match at the event. After the show, he recorded mysterious promo footage in a graveyard in the early hours of the morning.
On his Six Feet Under w/Mark Calaway podcast, The Undertaker said he disliked filming the segments due to the "flesh-freezing" temperatures:
"It was so cold and miserable. When you see it months later, you see the final product, you're proud, like, 'Dang, that's really good stuff.' But, man, in the process, forget about it, man. It s*cked." [1:02:14 – 1:02:33]
The Hall of Famer did not wrestle on WWE television for several months after the 1994 Royal Rumble due to a back injury. Later that year, he returned to action and defeated Yokozuna in a rematch at Survivor Series.
How WWE filmed The Undertaker's cemetery scenes
In 2020, The Undertaker defeated AJ Styles in a pre-recorded Boneyard match at WrestleMania 36. While that bout was filmed on a custom-built set, The Deadman's eerie 1990s promos were taped at real graveyards.
The Undertaker said WWE received permission to record the segments from wrestling-loving cemetery landowners:
"They would find people that were fans and then they would let us come in and we would dig a hole somewhere. It was crazy, man. Obviously, we never shot the gate or the name of the cemetery, but I think people, if they'd have known, they would have been [mad]." [1:01:02 – 1:01:22]
In the same episode, the former WWE Champion explained why a current star should never be pinned or win a title.
