The Undertaker says he slapped WWE legend because he wouldn't listen
The Undertaker cemented his status as a locker-room leader during his 30 years in WWE. In a recent podcast episode, The Deadman recalled how he once slapped The Big Show after an incident at SummerSlam 1999.
The Big Show and The Undertaker defeated Kane and X-Pac to win the tag titles. Toward the end of the match, Show stepped on X-Pac before attempting to pin him with one foot. The seven-foot star's tag team partner reacted furiously on the ring apron before tagging in to secure the win with a Tombstone Piledriver.
On his Six Feet Under w/Mark Calaway podcast, The Undertaker reminisced with fellow Brother of Destruction Kane about the slap:
"I would tell him [The Big Show] like two or three times and then finally it's like I have to up the stakes here because you're not listening to me and you're harming your own career and I'm trying to help you but you gotta listen to me. I don't even know what he [did], stepped on [X-Pac]. It was something and I just lost it a little bit." [14:50 – 15:14]
The Undertaker added that he had already told The Big Show before the match not to step on X-Pac.
Why The Big Show did not retaliate against The Undertaker
In the late 1990s, the WWE roster contained several imposing wrestlers. The Big Show joined the company from WCW when The Brothers of Destruction were among the top stars. Another popular big man, The Godfather, also featured prominently at the time.
The Undertaker added that The Godfather and Kane would likely have intervened if The Big Show ever got physical in real life:
"If he jumped on me, he was gonna have to jump on Kane, he was gonna have to jump on Godfather, so I think there was enough people that it just wasn't worth it. It wasn't worth it. 'Maybe I should listen.' And it's funny because later on I would hear him telling some other kid some of the things that I had told him, and I was thinking what a full circle moment." [15:40 – 16:02]
