"The year of John Cena" - Potential Cody Rhodes and The Rock rivalries discussed by former WWE star
A former WWE Superstar recently discussed potential rivalries for Cody Rhodes and The Rock in 2025. Jonathan Coachman made a couple of interesting suggestions that also involved John Cena, who will embark on a farewell tour next year.
The Rock teased a potential feud with Rhodes on the RAW after WrestleMania 40. Meanwhile, Cena recently announced his retirement effective at the end of 2025, prompting fans to think about the dream matches for the legendary WWE star.
On a recent episode of the Behind The Turnbuckle podcast, Coachman said Rhodes vs. Rocky should happen in January 2024. He also suggested opening Cena's farewell tour and RAW's first episode on Netflix with a match against The American Nightmare.
"We've got to get to January and I would love to see a Cody-Rock rivalry. I mean, who wouldn't love to see that? Cody-John Cena. I mean, Cena you know? But he's going to be gone for a little while. He just taped Shark Week, which he was very good by the way. … They want to set the anticipation because of the Netflix deal. Five billion dollars and the year of John Cena starts in January," Coachman said. [9:05 - 9:34]
While there's a big-money matchup between The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns' return made things more interesting. The Original Tribal Chief has turned into a babyface, creating a tricky dynamic with The Final Boss. Meanwhile, John Cena will have plenty of matches during his farewell tour, from possible dream bouts to revisiting old rivalries.
Cody Rhodes teases future match against The Rock
On an appearance on The Pivot podcast last month, Cody Rhodes was asked about his rivalry with The Rock and whether there was a one-on-one match on the horizon. Rhodes acknowledged that he would be ready for The Final Boss and would not be surprised if they locked horns next year.
"My head has been a swivel every day since the day after WrestleMania for when that music hits. I'll be 100% in the same spot I was, and I'll be ready for him. (...) If I could give you a guess, I feel like I hope it happens in the next year," Rhodes said. [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
Cody Rhodes recently retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa with Roman Reigns' help at SummerSlam. He's now set to defend it again at Bash in Berlin versus his friend Kevin Owens.
