"There many instances" of inappropriate behavior in WWE under Vince McMahon’s regime, claims former star
WWE has moved itself away from Vince McMahon ever since TKO Group Holdings took over the company. A former backstage interviewer spoke about instances of inappropriate behavior during Mr. McMahon’s era.
Charly Arnolt worked as a ring announcer and an interviewer in the company from 2016 to 2021 as Charly Caruso. During her time in the company, she garnered a rather large fanbase.
Charly was a guest on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where she talked about the company’s past under Vince McMahon. The 37-year-old spoke about her experience as a woman in WWE after the release of the recent Mr. McMahon docuseries on Netflix.
"What I've always said is, if you do not have thick skin, you do not belong working in the WWE," she began. "Were there many instances where I probably could have gone to HR over something small or even something that probably had a little bit more oomph to it? Yes. Was I the person to do that? No!"
Charly clarified that she was not mistreated in any certain way, but some things affected her as an employee in the Stamford-based promotion.
"Now I'm not saying that I was, you know, mistreated in any certain sort of way, but there were definitely things that went on at WWE that if an outsider were to get a glimpse on the inside, they would say, 'What is going on here? How are people working in these specific conditions?' But it's just one of those things that you kind of went with when you were working with the WWE. I'm interviewing men who were wearing nothing but like tiny little Speedos on, so it's kind of like the job," she added. [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
Charly Arnolt has been working in other sports since her exit from the company and talked about how women in the business had to remain thick-skinned to get by.
A wrestling legend claims Vince McMahon wanted him to retire from in-ring duties in WWE
Sting is one of the most well-known wrestlers in the world. The Icon had a short stint in the Sports Entertainment juggernaut during the 2010s, as he picked up an injury that nearly ended his career.
However, the legend returned to the ring as part of AEW and competed in several matches to prove his worth in the industry. In a recent interview, Sting claimed that Vince McMahon wanted him to retire from the squared circle under the latter's regime.
"I did leave it open-ended pretty much. I didn't wanna retire at that time. It was kind of a mutual deal with WWE at that time. Vince wanted me to retire under his umbrella. And at that time I was okay with that," he said.
Sting ultimately went to AEW in 2020 after returning from injury instead of signing with the Stamford-based promotion again. He had a long-running partnership with Darby Allin in the company. The Vigilante retired from the squared circle at Revolution 2024.
