Tony D'Angelo booked in unexpected championship match against 52-year-old wrestling legend
Tony D'Angelo is riding high after retaining the NXT Men's Championship against the dominant Oba Femi. He was confronted earlier tonight, before the NXT-ECW show, and booked in an unexpected title match against a 52-year-old legend.
This week in a pre-taped segment, Tony D'Angelo and his family were stopped by Shawn Spears, who was then hijacked by none other than the 52-year-old legend Nunzio and Tony Mamaluke - also known as Tony Marinara during his WCW stint. Nunzio, in particular, is a name that hasn't been seen in a while.
Either way, Nunzio got up in arms with Tony D'Angelo, who apparently didn't answer his texts. An angry Mamaluke, by Nunzio's side, even told D'Angelo family member Adriana Rizzo that she was booked against Nikkita Lyons next week. But in an unexpected move, Nunzio used his Philadelphia influence to get a North American Championship match against D'Angelo.
D'Angelo is looking forward to the next challenge but he likely didn't walk into Philadelphia prepared for a title defense. Either way, it was a night of legends returning and showing up, in a wave of nostalgia for the WWE Universe.
Apart from the announced return to the ring of Bubba Ray Dudley, fans saw legends like Rob Van Dam, while Shawn Michaels made a tease stating he saw a few familiar faces backstage.
Seeing Nunzio after so long was an incredible rush, especially for all who still remember the star and his impressive run with FBI in ECW.
