Top RAW star says Drew McIntyre messaged him after upsetting WWE release in 2021
Drew McIntyre knows the pain of getting released from WWE while being in a country that's not his own. Perhaps because of his experience, he sent an encouraging message to a current RAW star in 2021 when he was released.
That superstar is Australia's Bronson Reed. He was making his way through the ranks in NXT in 2021 when he was one of many superstars who faced the axe amidst regular roster cuts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, the change of regime meant that he was welcomed back with open arms and he only spent a year-and-a-half between his two WWE stints.
Speaking to Nine.com.au, Bronson Reed explained the dilemma of getting released while being in a country not native to his. He revealed that Drew McIntyre messaged him from his own experience back in 2014 and encouraged him to make a name for himself before returning:
"Drew [McIntyre] actually did message me when it happened and just told me to go out there and kill it and you'll be back. It took him years before he re-signed with WWE and I was fortunate enough that it was 16 or 18 months that I was gone.
Make a name for himself, he certainly did. The biggest win of Reed's brief time away from WWE came against Kazuchika Okada in the NJPW G1 Climax 32.
Drew McIntyre can turn babyface at Bad Blood, according to a wrestling legend
Wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer has suggested that there's an easy way to determine Gunther's next World Heavyweight Championship challenger, assuming he gets past Sami Zayn once their bout is inevitably made official.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, ECW legend Tommy Dreamer said that the winner of CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre should by default get a World Championship match. Not only that, but he believes McIntyre can be a babyface against Gunther.
"Would I give it to CM Punk? Yes, I would. But like I said, if CM Punk wins, then I think he has to go towards a world title. If CM Punk loses, it's hard to justify giving him a world title shot. So then do you go with Drew? Because I mean, Drew and Gunther would be next level, but then you're pretty much turning one of your biggest heels babyface, which Drew can actually do." It's going to be interesting to see the fallout between Punk and McIntyre as their rivalry looks to be heading into its final chapter.
