Top WWE name details scrapped plans to win the Money in the Bank contract; change took place last minute during entrances

Money in the Bank can potentially change a WWE Superstar's trajectory for the better and set them on course to the main event scene. Recently, Mustafa Ali detailed scrapped plans for him to win the illustrious briefcase moments before he was ready to enter the ring for the match.

In 2019, Mustafa Ali was at the peak of his career in the Stamford-based promotion. The 38-year-old star bounced back on WWE's main roster after failing to punch his ticket for WrestleMania 35. Later, he was scheduled to win the Men's Money in the Bank ladder match but Brock Lesnar's WWE return changed those plans.

In an interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, the 38-year-old star detailed scrapped plans to win the briefcase in Hartford, Connecticut. The former X-Division Champion stated the change occurred when superstars were making their entrances for the match.

“So, yeah, I show up to Money in the Bank, and they’re like, Hey, you’re winning it. I go, okay, cool. So this is so funny because I’m one of the shorter guys in the match. So they actually had me climb up the ladder so they could adjust the briefcase so it was within grabbing distance of me. And all day we’re putting this match together. Everyone’s like, Hey, man, Congrats. Yeah, man, this is awesome. I was like, Oh, maybe I can get this briefcase to light up, because I was wearing the light of stuff at the time. I’m thinking this is one of those cloud 9 moments, I can’t believe this is happening, because it’s not happening," Ali said. [H/T - CVV]

Mustafa Ali addresses potential return to WWE in 2025

Mustafa Ali had one of the best years for a wrestler who was released from the Stamford-based promotion in 2024. The 38-year-old star made headlines on numerous occasions and had one of the most eventful reigns as TNA X-Division Champion.

The star is still on a successful path and could achieve more on the independent scene in the coming years. In the same interview, Ali was asked about the possibility of returning to WWE in the coming year. Here's what he had to say.

“I think there’s multiple paths, yeah. And the thing is there’s good relations there. The thing with them moving to Netflix is very, very interesting, because it just opens things. I don’t know how much the show is going to do. The show is going to change, as far as dynamic, as far as rating, as far as what they’re okay with," Ali said. [H/T - CVV]
