Top WWE official backs Logan Paul as the "next big thing," clears the controversy around full-time wrestlers and part-timers
WWE CEO Nick Khan recently spoke about the great work put in by Logan Paul over the last year.
Paul originally signed a one-year contract with WWE. During this time he had a few matches that made the fans sit up and take notice. In fact, the YouTube sensation challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia last year. The match exceeded expectations and cemented Logan as a bonafide megastar in WWE.
Nick Khan was at MoffettNathanson’s Inaugural Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference this week and spoke about the details behind signing The Maverick. Khan mentioned that Logan was a social media sensation even before he set foot in WWE. He explained how the entertainment relationship personnel were keen on bringing him in and the star also showed interest.
"With Logan, we were getting pitched on internally by our entertainment relations folks. Logan Paul is going to be the next big thing. He came in and took it seriously, as did Bad Bunny. It registered. It mattered. Our young audience spiked."
Khan made it clear that the regular superstars were integral to the show, but celebs like Bad Bunny and Logan Paul helped the company break into new markets.
"Our bread and butter are our full-time superstars, but to be able to bring in Bad Bunny and Logan Paul and Pat McAfee at different points, it just increases awareness, which is good for us." (H/T Sescoops)
Logan Paul lost to Seth "Freakin" Rollins at WrestleMania
At the start of the year, Logan Paul found himself in a rivalry with Seth Rollins. Paul had earlier interfered in the Elimination Chamber match, leading to Rollins missing out on capturing the United States Championship.
In the weeks that followed, the two men went back-and-forth and the 28-year-old managed to knock Seth out with his One Lucky Punch on a few occasions. This set up a blockbuster matchup at the Show of Shows.
Rollins showed his experience at the Grandest Stage and managed to walk out with the win after a chaotic matchup that saw Logan's business partner KSI going through the announcer's table. After the event, Paul also renewed his contract with WWE.
