Top WWE star dethroning Cody Rhodes to win first world title in 7 years is possible, says Matt Camp; it's not John Cena
Former WWE host Matt Camp recently suggested that Cody Rhodes could lose his championship to a top SmackDown star. He claimed Roman Reigns could then confront the new champion.
Earlier this year, The American Nightmare captured the Undisputed WWE Championship for the first time in his career after defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. He has since defended his title against several superstars, including Kevin Owens. While Rhodes and The Prizefighter are now involved in a heated feud on the blue brand, many expect them to have another title match at Survivor Series: WarGames.
On his The Wrestling Matt podcast, Camp suggested that Owens beat Rhodes to win his first World Title in over seven years. His last world title reign ended in March 2017 when he lost the Universal Championship to Goldberg. The former WWE host claimed Reigns could then confront The Prizefighter:
"He [Kevin Owens] is a credible main-eventer and I think it would do wonders for him to beat Cody. Throw that in there. Throw in the idea of Kevin being champion, taking it away from Cody, but also Kevin would be higher up in the world than Roman just based on who's got the title. Kevin could throw that in Roman's face. And you know what Roman could do as a babyface? 'But you didn't beat me. But you never could take it from me. Nobody got more shots at that title than you did Kevin. So, sure, you're champion now until I want it,'" he said.
The former RAW Talk host added that the 40-year-old's moment of ecstasy following his victory over Rhodes would then end at the hands of the Original Tribal Chief:
"Kevin would have that moment of ecstasy of winning that championship but as soon as Roman would throw that in his face, right there all of his excitement and happiness and was all worth it and good, 'I did what I had to do to become champion' or 'I did what I had to do, I fought back against my friend. I took what was most valuable to him and that makes me happy,' that all and you get cut down to size by Roman Reigns." [From 25:07 - 26:44]
WWE analyst also thinks Kevin Owens could end Cody Rhodes' title reign
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts also addressed the possibility of having a championship rematch between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens.
Rhodes and Owens previously faced each other at Bash in Berlin, where Cody was able to retain his title. While the rumors suggested that the former AEW star's reign is not going to end anytime soon, the 41-year-old wrestling analyst did not rule out The Prizefighter potentially ending The American Nightmare's title reign:
"I'm still not discounting the idea that Kevin Owens could win the title either because then you've got another multitude of possibilities. Are you finally gonna do Randy and KO for the title? Are you gonna do Sami and KO for the title? Are you gonna do, you know, is Roman gonna get another shot at KO and you're gonna run that one back because now KO is a heel, Roman is a babyface. That could happen too," he said.
Owens is set to be on SmackDown this Friday. It would be interesting to see he would indeed challenge Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Survivor Series.
