Former WWE head writer Vince Russo criticized Ilja Dragunov after he failed to win a main event on RAW
Ilja Dragunov recently failed to become the number-one contender for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. He lost a Fatal Four-Way Match on RAW, which also involved Braun Strowman, Pete Dunne, and Jey Uso.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW podcast, former WWE head writer Vince Russo criticized Dragunov for his antics during the Fatal Four-Way Match.
"When I talk about the last two minutes when Pete Dunne and Dragunov were in there, Dragunov was doing these moves that were so crisp. Ridiculously unnecessary. Every time he hit him, he was doing the spin punch gimmick. Then he bounces off the ropes, came through. You're really gonna do that in a real fight, bro? Seriously?" Vince Russo said.
Since moving up to the main roster, Dragunov has unsuccessfully challenged Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship. He was also unsuccessful in his attempt to dethrone Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, failing to defeat The Ring General on multiple occasions since the latter's victory over Damian Priest at SummerSlam 2024.
On RAW, The Mad Dragon was involved in a storyline with The Judgment Day. However, following his injury, the 30-year-old star is expected to be sidelined till mid-2025. He is also at risk of missing WrestleMania 41.
