Triple H addresses criticism around former WWE champion's booking
WWE's Biggest Party of The Summer is in the books, and the company is now gearing up to build towards the Bash in Berlin Premium Live Event. Meanwhile, Triple H recently addressed the criticism surrounding former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest during the latter's stint as Mr. Money in the Bank.
Last year, The Archer of Infamy won the Money in the Bank briefcase in London. However, the 41-year-old star failed multiple times when he tried to cash in the briefcase on the then-World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. The RAW Superstar was ridiculed for his antics and failed cash-in attempts.
In WWE 24: Damian Priest, The Game addressed the questionable booking of Damian Priest when the star held the Money in the Bank briefcase. The Chief Content Officer stated that the company was waiting for the right moment to execute the ''biggest thing possible'' for The Punisher, and fans reacted harshly, as they were unaware of the plans.
Priest eventually cashed in his MITB contract against Drew McIntyre and claimed the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania XL.
"People, if they don't know where it's going, so whatever they see in the moment, they are reacting to. So, as a talent, it is difficult to deal with. We're looking for the right moment to make the biggest thing possible for him," he said. (From 51:57 to 52:18)
Triple H on why Damian Priest didn't make it to WWE sooner
Damian Priest had a successful tenure under Triple H's leadership on the developmental brand. Later, The Archer of Infamy rose to new heights in the Stamford-based promotion as a member of The Judgment Day.
However, many wondered why it took a while for a talent like Damian Priest to make it to the big leagues. In the same documentary, The King of Kings stated that he wanted Damian in the company sooner but didn't have enough space then.
"He just got himself in great shape. We gave him some feedback the last time he was here. He implemented that into what he does. So, he clearly takes direction and is driven to try to do more. But a lot of people wanted to come into the company at that bit of time, and the competition for spots became greater. So, he was doing the work; we just don't have the space,'' he said.
Damian Priest became a top babyface in WWE after SummerSlam 2024. He and Rhea Ripley are currently feuding with The New Judgment Day on Monday Night RAW.
