Triple H bringing back a former WWE Champion after firing him 3 months ago must happen, says veteran

Several superstars have departed WWE over the past seven months. Meanwhile, a wrestling veteran recently urged Triple H to bring back one of these wrestlers, claiming the company owes it to him.

The former superstar in question is Jinder Mahal. The Modern Day Maharaja had two stints in the Stamford-based company. His second stint lasted eight years and ended this past April, when he was released from his contract. During an interview with the Cafe de René podcast, wrestling veteran Stevie Richards urged Chief Content Officer Triple H to re-sign the former WWE Champion.

The 52-year-old claimed Mahal was "hamstrung" with the anti-American Indian gimmick that he had to play on television. He pointed out that the company owes it to The Modern Day Maharaja, and The Game must give him the run he deserves.

"Think about that, though. Bring Jinder [Mahal] back during this and see what Jinder can do. He was so hamstrung with that old school, you know, anti-American Indian gimmick, which is just like, whatever! You know what I mean. You owe it to a guy like that. Bring him back and give him the run he needs," he said. [28:18-28:38]

Why did WWE release Jinder Mahal?

During an episode of The Wrestling Time Machine, veteran journalist Bill Apter addressed Jinder Mahal's release from the Stamford-based company. Apter wondered why the promotion did not utilize Mahal despite being "one of the nicest guys and a good worker!''

Meanwhile, he predicted the only reason the company let Mahal go was probably budget cuts.

"Surprised! They [WWE] haven't done anything with him [Jinder Mahal]. It's funny when they talk about all the past WWE Champions; they rarely even mention him. He is one of the nicest guys. He looks good; he is a good worker, so I don't know; budget cuts!" he said. [From 1:30 onwards]

Mahal was previously released in 2014. However, he returned to the Stamford-based company two years later. It would be interesting to see if The Modern Day Maharaja returns for a third stint.
