WWE News: Triple H denies Mickie-Asuka rumours and more

James will battle Asuka for the NXT Women’s Title

During a recent conference call with several media outlets promoting NXT TakeOver: Toronto, WWE Superstar and Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, Triple H addressed the rumours surrounding the return of former WWE Women's Champion, Mickie James.

It was rumoured that WWE initially wanted Trish Stratus to face the NXT Women's Champion Asuka, but went with James because Stratus was expecting her second child and was thus rendered unavailable.

Triple H addressed those rumours saying:

"I've seen the rumours out there about other people being attempted to be grabbed for [Mickie's spot],"

Triple H further added that:

"I felt like [Mickie] and Asuka would tear it up, I want to reinforce that Mickie was not the consolation prize for us in any way. She is the person that we went at."

Triple H said that he wanted the other female performers in NXT to grow and develop as wrestlers and has thus, gone with James for the coming TakeOver event. He went on to state that he has full faith in her talent and abilities .

Mickie James is scheduled to face the NXT Women's Champion, Asuka for the NXT Women’s championship at TakeOver: Toronto. James, after her departure from the WWE in 2010, was seen again in 2013 at the WWE Performance Centre, where she served as a guest trainer for the female performers.

Ever since the news of her return broke out rumours are floating around that there is a strong possibility that she will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in the Class of 2017.

Along with news concerning James, Triple H discussed several other matters during the call such as the 2 out of 3 falls tag team match between the Revival against #DIY. Triple H claimed that it was going to be a match of the year candidate. He also said that 205 Live will attempt at recapturing the feel of the Cruiserweight Classic.

Triple H also clarified Shawn Michaels' role in the performance centre. One of Triple H's closest friends and WWE Legend, Kevin Nash had recently said in an interview that Michaels had taken the role as the new head of the Performance Centre.

Hunter denied that statement and said that Matt Bloom (A-Train, Lord Tensai) is and will continue to remain the head of the Performance Centre. Triple H said that Michaels' role in the Performance Centre has not been defined as of yet and that he didn’t wish to answer why Michaels moved his entire family from Texas to Florida.
