Triple H gets warned about potentially making a massive championship mistake by WWE veteran (Exclusive)
Triple H has seemingly done a commendable job of changing various aspects of the WWE product, with reports suggesting the company could introduce more titles. Dutch Mantell, however, explained why it would be a mistake on this week's Smack Talk.
PWN reported that WWE could soon unveil the Women's United States and Intercontinental Championships, with Fightful adding that the idea was indeed discussed.
While the addition of women's midcard titles has been the talking point for years, Dutch Mantell firmly believes that WWE already has too many championships.
The topic was brought up in the latest episode of Smack Talk. Dutch Mantell noted how getting new belts devalues the top titles, in this case, the respective Women's World Championships on RAW and SmackDown, respectively.
"Well, it's important how they [WWE] do it. It's like anything else, but didn't we talk about them having too many titles not too long ago anyway? And if you have too many titles, it kind of, the top one kind of becomes devalued by the other two. And if you talk about this title, this title, and this title, well, wait a minute, what is the main title?" he said. [35:30-36:00]
While Dutch Mantell realized that the Women's US and IC Titles could be the promotion's way of rewarding its female roster, he stated that the decision would only confuse the fanbase.
The 74-year-old added:
"I think it confuses fans, and they are going to do what they are going to do. I think it's to reward some of the girls who have done hard, hard work. But for me, as a fan, I think there are too many titles. It's too confusing for me." [36:01-36:30]
The Stamford-based promotion has a stacked women's roster at the moment, and based on the speculation, the new US and IC Championships could become a reality in the Triple H-led regime.
