Triple H returning to the ring after 4 years for huge WrestleMania match is possible, says WWE legend, but it shouldn't happen for major reason
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H officially retired from in-ring competition in 2022. WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff recently addressed whether The Game could return to the squared circle at WrestleMania 41 to fight a top superstar.
After suffering a serious heart issue, Triple H ended his wrestling career, shifting his focus completely to his backstage role. He last competed in January 2021 when he fought Randy Orton on RAW. While The Game returning to in-ring competition seemed unlikely due to his health condition, his physical altercation with Kevin Owens at Saturday Night's Main Event after the latter attacked Cody Rhodes following their Undisputed WWE Championship match led to speculation about a potential square-off between the two.
Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff did not rule out the possibility of Triple H coming out of retirement to fight Owens at WrestleMania 41 despite him not wanting it to happen. Meanwhile, he praised the execution of the unaired spot:
"Maybe [Triple H will fight Owens at WrestleMania 41]. I hope not but maybe. Here's what I liked about that. It wasn't overdone. It didn't look like an angle. Now, you're suggesting that it might've been and that's making me cringe a little bit, not because I wouldn't wanna see Triple H in the ring again. That's not it. I just don't think they need it. And it looks so believable. It was so well executed because it didn't look like an angle. And maybe that's the reason why it should be because they got me with it or they executed well enough to potentially get me with it. So, we'll see but I hope not," he said.
The former RAW General Manager claimed The Game returning to the ring would diminish the perception of his role as the company's Chief Content Officer:
"I love the fact that we've embraced Paul in this new role. He's the face of the company. We heard his voice in the open. Let's let that be enough. I think putting him in the ring actually in a way diminishes the perception of his new role in the company, my personal opinion." [37:19 - 38:26]
Why did WWE CCO Triple H attack Kevin Owens?
Kevin Owens' match against Cody Rhodes witnessed The Prizefighter pinning the champion for over three counts while the referee was knocked out. Meanwhile, Triple H was the one who initially got physical with The Prizefighter after the latter destroyed The American Nightmare following the match.
Legendary journalist and Sportskeeda's own Bill Apter commented on the two incidents, claiming the WWE CCO might have tried to protect Rhodes by not sending another referee and getting into an altercation with Owens:
"Is Triple H protecting Cody Rhodes? He didn't send out a referee when Owens was pinning Cody Rhodes either!" Apter said.
Eric Bischoff predicted a rematch between Rhodes and Owens could happen on RAW's first episode on Netflix.
