Triple H reveals catastrophic implications for Cody Rhodes following blockbuster return of The Rock to WWE
Cody Rhodes finished the story and became the Undisputed WWE Champion at WrestleMania XL. However, he nearly lost his spot to The Rock, and it seems Triple H had no plans for The American Nightmare heading into the show.
Fans were looking forward to seeing Cody Rhodes become the world champion after he won the 2024 Royal Rumble. However, things got complicated when The Rock made a surprise comeback and initially took Rhodes’ WrestleMania XL spot.
Triple H, WWE’s Chief Creative Officer, apparently didn’t have a match planned for Rhodes after The Final Boss stepped in to challenge Roman Reigns. The recently released documentary, WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain, revealed some important details about the biggest matches on the card for the event.
Cody Rhodes spoke about losing his spot during the documentary and noted that he had to continue pushing and believing for the sake of his fans:
"I had to believe, right, one thing, you lose the faith of the fans. We have seen it tons of times. I have to believe that I won't lose their faith. There might be fans who are upset that I've been talking about this title for two years and haven't decided to wrestle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania," Cody Rhodes said.
Later in the documentary, Triple H stated that he didn’t have plans for Cody after The Rock appeared to take the spot. He added that it was up to him to figure out things in the best interest of the business.
"Not sure yet, so that's on me to figure out." [20:32 onward]
In the end, things worked out well for all the parties involved. The Rock got to team up with Roman Reigns for a big tag team win against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. The second night of the show saw Rhodes finish the story and win the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Cody Rhodes was disheartened after The Rock arrived and Triple H changed things for WWE WrestleMania XL
The changes made by The Rock and Triple H to the initial WrestleMania card did not sit well with The American Nightmare. He was just as heartbroken as his diehard fans after The Final Boss’ arrival.
After the episode of SmackDown heading into 'Mania that saw his arrival, Cody Rhodes was dejected as he realized that he was going to miss another chance to finish the story. Heading to the tour bus, Cody looked crestfallen as he was sure that The Rock would now challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
In the end, Triple H and the WWE creative clearly made the right call by listening to the fans and changing things around. It turned out to an event for the ages as The American Nightmare finally conquered The Tribal Chief at The Grandest Stage of Them All.
