Triple H's subtle involvement in Randy Orton and Gunther story on WWE RAW, according to veteran, elevated dream match
Randy Orton and Gunther are set to collide at WWE Bash in Berlin, and Triple H’s subtle involvement in the rivalry has made it more interesting, according to a veteran. This match was set up on WWE RAW this past Monday night.
Gunther defeated Damian Priest to become the new World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam. Finn Balor betrayed Damian Priest, who lost the title to The Ring General.
During his celebration on WWE RAW after SummerSlam, Gunther was interrupted by Randy Orton. The Viper made it clear that the new World Heavyweight Champion did not pin him clean in the King of the Ring final to get his title match at SummerSlam.
Randy was quick to bring up Triple H’s name and noted that The Game also felt the match needed a sequel. Therefore, he proposed a World Heavyweight Championship match between himself and Gunther at Bash in Berlin.
Randy Orton’s mic work and the commentary team's acknowledgment of Triple H’s comments worked well for veteran Tommy Dreamer. On a recent edition of Busted Open After Dark, Dreamer stated that the inclusion of The Game’s name helped elevate the story.
"Triple H had to basically say the referee messed up. In the world of professional wrestling, we can make good on anything and that's what they did." [H/T - WrestlingInc.]
The Innovator of Violence felt that the segment was penned well and allowed the two men to build towards their next match with ease. The blunder in the King of the Ring final allowed WWE to build The Ring General’s first big title defense against The Viper.
WWE legend Triple H had already teased a rematch between Randy Orton and Gunther
After the dust settled at the Jeddah Superdome that hosted the WWE King & Queen of the Ring Premium Live Event, Triple H addressed the controversial finish of the men’s final match. Gunther did not pin Randy Orton clean, and a referee’s mistake earned him the crown and a shot at the World Heavyweight Title at SummerSlam.
In the post-event press conference, Triple H noted that mistake, stating that a rematch between the two superstars should take place down the line.
"Coming back here and seeing it back, look, I saw exactly what you saw. I saw what everybody saw, I saw what everybody is talking about. Didn't really even seem controversial to me, it just seemed like Randy Orton's shoulder wasn't down," said Triple H. "Especially after what I saw tonight, I certainly want to see that again. I think Randy Orton deserves to have another shot at that, and I think if I know anything about Gunther, he will want to have another shot at that."
It’ll be great to see The Viper get a rematch with Gunther, this time with the World Heavyweight Title on the line. He could give The Ring General a good rub and come close to winning another WWE world title.
