Triple H will book massive long-awaited match between 2 major WWE stars at SummerSlam, says veteran
As WWE SummerSlam is only three weeks away, two title matches have been made official, with another few on the verge of confirmation. A wrestling veteran believes WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H and his creative team would book another massive square-off at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
The veteran in question is Jim Cornette. On his Jim Cornette Experience podcast, he discussed the storyline between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. The two top superstars have been feuding since The Scottish Warrior injured The Best in the World at the 2024 Men's Royal Rumble match. While McIntyre has beaten down Punk multiple times, the latter cost him the World Heavyweight Championship on several occasions. He recently cost him his cash-in at Money in the Bank.
The 62-year-old veteran now believes the company, creatively led by The Game, is planning to book the highly anticipated match at SummerSlam, pointing out that they are heating the storyline every week to be able to reach the climax soon in Ohio:
"It's looking like SummerSlam maybe a more sure thing now because they wouldn't be heating this thing up like this every week if they weren't pretty sure they could be selling this soon," he said. [8:35 - 8:46]
There are reportedly high chances of seeing CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam
Over the past few weeks, CM Punk was involved in a few physical spots. However, The Best in the World is reportedly not medically cleared to compete. Nevertheless, WWE is hopeful he will return to the ring at SummerSlam to fight Drew McIntyre, according to Dave Meltzer.
Although Meltzer clarified that booking the match for SummerSlam is now the plan, he pointed out that it is not yet written in stone:
"Right now, it is not one hundred percent as far as Punk vs. Drew at SummerSlam, but I was told that it is probable. I was pretty much told that they're pretty confident in it but they can't go and say one hundred percent because it isn't one hundred percent. It's been the hope, but it's now more than a hope, now it's a plan." [H/T - WrestleTalk]
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk have never squared off in a one-on-one match. It would be interesting to see if the two would have their first singles fight at The Biggest Party of the Summer in three weeks.
