Trish Stratus and Lita take shots at 17-time WWE champion; joke that they were the 'spark'

WWE legends Trish Stratus and Lita jokingly took a shot at a 17-time champion during an interview. The Hall of Famers even loosely claimed that they might have had an influence on Charlotte Flair becoming a WWE Superstar.

Before pursuing a career in wrestling, Charlotte had no interest in the business and was focused on volleyball. She grew up in the industry, but it took a legendary match between Stratus and Lita to "spark" her interest in what made her father, Ric Flair, a pop culture icon.

Speaking on the Ring The Belle podcast, Team Bestie opened up about the 20th anniversary of their main event match on the December 6, 2004, episode of RAW. Charlotte was in the front row since the show was held at the Cricket Arena in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Lita joked about the 17-time WWE champion using her connections to get the best seats in the house, while Stratus was proud to help "spark" her interest in wrestling.

"She had the ticket hookup right there. What a rub," Lita said.
"We've known Ashley since she was young, right? So she would be Ric's daughter, we'd see her, we saw her grow up, and we saw she was very athletic, and then she played volleyball. … Not to say we were the spark for Charlotte Flair… but it's pretty cool," Stratus added.

Charlotte Flair crossed paths with Trish Stratus back in 2019, defeating the WWE Hall of Famer at SummerSlam. Flair has not faced Lita in a one-on-one match, but it will be interesting to see if it happens down the line.

Trish Stratus open to WWE return

Speaking to The Takedown on Sports Illustrated, Trish Stratus was asked about her potential return to the ring. Stratus has been off WWE television since losing to Becky Lynch in a Steel Cage Match at Payback 2023. She was open to coming back but under the right circumstances.

"I think it's like examining the landscape and seeing what works best for everyone. There's so many parties to consider. The person that is in the storyline, the WWE. It's really collaborative," Stratus said.

Stratus has some unfinished business with Zoey Stark, who took her out after losing at Payback. Stark is currently part of the Pure Fusion Collective with Shayna Baszler and Sonya Deville.
