Tye Dillinger vs Bobby Roode for NXT Takeover: Toronto official

Briefly tag team partners, now enemies

A few weeks ago on NXT, Bobby Roode requested Tye Dillinger to become his tag team partner so they could team up for the Second Annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

However, during their first round bout with the debuting SAnitY(comprising of Alexandre Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton), the latter viciously attacked Dillinger, and Roode did nothing to help his partner, instead choosing to walk away and leaving his partner to get continually beaten down and pinned in the process, ending their tag team shortly.

Naturally, Dillinger was not happy about that and wanted to settle his beef with Bobby Roode who he felt had done him wrong. In a WWE.com exclusive, Dillinger while getting treated called out Roode and issued a challenge for a singles match at NXT Takeover: Toronto

Here’s a video of Tye Dillinger calling out Bobby Roode:

Dillinger said that while he knew Roode wasn’t a man of his word, NXT General Manager William Regal definitely was.

And that was true, as after Bobby Roode defeated Sean Maluta at last night’s episode of NXT, he made it official that he was going to be facing Dillinger at NXT Takeover: Toronto. While Bobby Roode was berating The Perfect Ten, Dillinger came out and laid the smackdown on the Glorious one.

This is an extremely interesting matchup, as NXT have finally begun to make the most of Dillinger’s popularity by putting him in a marquee match for the Takeover: Toronto crowd.

Given that both are Canadians, and both are fan favourites, there is no doubt that the crowd reaction for the match from the hardcore Toronto crowd will be red-hot, and the reactions will very likely be split down the middle.

Prior to the feud, Dillinger was most definitely NXT’s most underutilized talent, as the management never capped on his popularity and instead used him as an enhancement talent for other stars to get over.

However, regardless of that, The FullSail crowd stayed loyal to The Perfect Ten and they seem to be giving a more favourable reaction to him over Bobby Roode, who attained instant popularity due to his popularity, theme song and character.

So far the Takeover: Toronto card looks like this:

- Shinsuke Nakamura(c) vs Samoa Joe(NXT Championship)
- Asuka(c) vs Mickie James(NXT Women’s Championship)
- Tye Dillinger vs Bobby Roode
- TBA vs TBA(Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finale)

It is likely that even the semi-finals of the Tag Team Classic tournament will take place on the card like it did last year at NXT Takeover: Respect. That would make a total of six matches on the card.
