Unexpected name set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at an upcoming show
Cody Rhodes has a new challenger in town for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The American Nightmare will be defending his coveted title against Santos Escobar at upcoming house shows.
Cody has been the face of WWE over the last few months. The former AEW EVP ended Roman Reigns' historic title reign at WrestleMania 40, cementing himself as the top guy. Unlike the Head of the Table, Rhodes has been a fighting champion, regularly defending his title at premium live events and house shows.
The American Nightmare will be headlining the company's upcoming summer live event tour in Mexico. Cody Rhodes will face Santos Escobar on July 13th and 14th. Escobar joined the main roster in 2022. However, he has not had much success on the blue brand and is often left with inconsistent booking. The Mexican will get a chance to shine in front of his home fans as he will challenge for the Undisputed WWE Championship on both Saturday and Sunday house shows.
Cody Rhodes suffered a loss at WWE Money in the Bank
Cody Rhodes has been booked very strongly since returning to the global juggernaut in 2022. However, the American Nightmare was on the losing end of his match at the company's recently concluded premium live event - Money in the Bank.
While Rhodes may have defeated Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, he still finds himself embroiled in a feud with The Bloodline. However, the heel faction is being led by Solo Sikoa this time.
Solo, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu defeated the team of Cody, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens in a six-man tag team match at Money in the Bank, with Sikoa pinning the former AEW EVP.
The feud between the two groups is far from over. Solo Sikoa has hinted at going after the Undisputed WWE Championship and could face Cody Rhodes for the same at SummerSlam. Meanwhile, Roman Reigns is also speculated to return at the Biggest Party of the Summer which could make things interesting.
