Unexpected swerve in The New Day angle will happen, Xavier Woods isn't turning heel, predicts ex-WWE employee
After nearly a decade together, The New Day's run as a tag team in WWE is seemingly approaching its end. While many expect Xavier Woods to turn heel on his partner, Kofi Kingston, a former WWE employee thinks otherwise.
Over the past few weeks, Woods has shown frustration with some of his tag team partner's decisions, including acquiring the help of Odyssey Jones and LWO without consulting him. Last night on RAW, the 38-year-old unmasked Rey Mysterio in their one-on-one match and capitalized on it to win the fight. Although he claimed it was accidental, many saw the incident as a tease of a heel turn. Later that night, he interfered in Kingston's match against Chad Gable, costing his partner the square-off, seemingly dropping another hint at a possible turn.
Nevertheless, former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci predicted on the Behind The Turnbuckle: The Last Word podcast that Woods would not be the one turning heel. Instead, it would be Kingston. He claimed the former WWE Champion got his partner an Intercontinental Title shot against Jey Uso to deceive Woods before betraying him:
"I've swerved big time on this. I think Kofi is gonna be the heel. This is what I'm saying right now, I think Kofi, the way he's talking to him, 'I'm letting you be the quarterback. Now, you're gonna go against Jey Uso. I'm letting you do this.' Make him think that he's on his side, but in the end, it's gonna be the big swerve of Kofi being a heel. And I can't wait to see Kofi be a heel cuz I think he'll be a great subtle heel. That's what I'm saying, Coach," he said. [24:47 - 25:21]
What did Jey Uso say about facing Xavier Woods on WWE RAW?
Jey Uso defeated Bron Breakker last week on Monday Night RAW to capture the Intercontinental Championship. After this week's episode of the red brand, the Leader of the Yeet movement addressed his first challenger, Xavier Woods.
Speaking on RAW Talk, the Intercontinental Champion stated that Woods deserved the opportunity to fight for the title, recalling the historic rivalry between The Usos and The New Day:
"Hell yeah, man, Xavier Woods deserves this opportunity, man. Great tag team. We had this historic rivalry before; I know how he'd get down, man, so I'm excited to put on next week on Monday Night RAW, man. We're going to put on again, it was yeet,” Uso said.
While Uso recently captured his first singles championship in WWE, Woods is still looking to do the same. It would be interesting to see if he can accomplish that mission next Monday on RAW.
