Unexpected top WWE Superstar ending Cody Rhodes' championship reign isn't ruled out, says Sam Roberts
Cody Rhodes has surpassed 220 days as Undisputed WWE Champion. However, WWE analyst Sam Roberts does not rule out the possibility of The American Nightmare losing the title to an unexpected top superstar.
The American Nightmare is currently feuding with Kevin Owens on SmackDown. While Rhodes successfully defended his title against The Prizefighter earlier this year at Bash in Berlin, Roberts predicted the two would square off again before the end of this year.
While many do not believe the former Universal Champion would be the one to end Rhodes' Undisputed WWE Championship reign, the 41-year-old RAW Talk host did not rule out the possibility. Speaking on his NotSam Wrestling podcast, Roberts claimed Owens could dethrone the 39-year-old, opening up the opportunity for The Prizefighter to get in the ring with multiple other top superstars:
"I'm still not discounting the idea that Kevin Owens could win the title either because then you've got another multitude of possibilities. Are you finally gonna do Randy and KO for the title? Are you gonna do Sami and KO for the title? Are you gonna do, you know, is Roman gonna get another shot at KO and you're gonna run that one back because now KO is a heel, Roman is a babyface. That could happen too," he said. [From 58:23 to 58:46]
Sam Roberts suggested another top WWE star could dethrone Cody Rhodes
On the same episode of his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts suggested another scenario in which John Cena would win the 2025 Men's Royal Rumble. Meanwhile, Randy Orton would dethrone Cody Rhodes that same night.
He claimed The Viper could then square off against the Leader of the Cenation at WrestleMania 41:
"Now, we're talking the what if scenarios are anything from, you know, who's gonna win the Royal Rumble to face Cody Rhodes? What if Randy Orton takes the title? Now this one has to go. Maybe John Cena wins the Royal Rumble, Randy Orton wins the WWE Championship, now you've got your WrestleMania match. There's so many ways you could go," he said.
Rhodes last defended his title against Solo Sikoa on the September 13 episode of SmackDown. It would be interesting to see how long The American Nightmare would hold on to the championship.
