WWE News: Update on Brock Lesnar and Goldberg's Survivor Series match, Lesnar's opponent at Wrestlemania
Rumours flew about yesterday that Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar was a lock for Survivor Series. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that the match was set to main-event the PPV at Toronto this November and WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross tweeted it out as well:
Another source says that @Goldberg vs @BrockLesnar is a done deal and that it will likely go down at #SurvivorSeries. If true, bravo @wwe
— Jim Ross (@JRsBBQ) October 5, 2016
Goldberg was the special guest on ESPN’s Off The Top Rope with Jonathan Coachman, and he addressed the long standing rumor of Goldberg’s return to WWE. He stated that he is not returning back in the squared circle. Many expected that Goldberg would make the announcement of his return on ESPN, but that turned out not to be the case. However, that is not necessarily a confirmation that it is not happening. It could even be quite the contrary.
Apparently, WWE does want the match to happen in order to promote WWE 2K17 and feel that Survivor Series is the best time to do it
.
As for Brock Lesnar, it is unlikely that The Goldberg match will happen at Wrestlemania 33 next year. However, it is being heavily rumored that The Beast Incarnate could be facing off against Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon at the grandest stage of them all.
Many believed that Brock’s feud against Shane that began at the end of Summerslam would culminate in either Shane facing Brock himself or Shane calling Goldberg out as his enforcer to stop The Beast Incarnate. Post-Summerslam, the feud between them was teased in subtle bits and pieces, and it is very likely that this will be a feud that will be resumed in a matter of time.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter also stated that Lesnar’s Wrestlemania opponent has been picked and that we will find out not long after Royal Rumble. However, as seen this year, many plans could change due to things such as injuries. Brock Lesnar was scheduled to face The Eater Of Worlds Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 32 this year, and the feud was even set into motion from the Raw before the Royal Rumble, however, things changed as Dean Ambrose vs Brock Lesnar felt more organic, and that was the match that ended up happening.
