Veteran reveals he pitched an idea for John Cena before his WWE debut (Exclusive)

On July 6, John Cena announced his WWE retirement tour in front of an emotional Toronto crowd at Money in the Bank. Since then, many fans and pro wrestling personalities have paid tribute to The Cenation Leader. Former head writer Vince Russo recently reflected on Cena's career and revealed how he pitched an idea for his debut.

In his illustrious pro wrestling career, John Cena has won 16 WWE World Titles and has been among the company's biggest stars for nearly two decades. The 47-year-old is set to wrap up his in-ring career in 2025, and it is surely going to be an emotional run for everyone. Fans will likely get to see Cena make more than 30 appearances on the company's programming next year.

Vince Russo called John Cena one of the best on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW. The former writer revealed that he had pitched an idea to the company for the 16-time WWE World Champion before his main roster debut. During his time as a consultant, Russo realized The Cenation Leader's potential and seemingly spoke to then-Chairman Vince McMahon about the star's future.

"That very short window when I was consulting there, I pitched something for Cena and Vince before Cena was doing anything, bro because I knew there was freaking money." (9:57 - 10:13)

Russo added that he would have loved to work with John Cena in the global juggernaut. It will be interesting to see which stars feud with the legend upon his comeback.
