Veteran wants Randy Orton to return as WWE's new authority figure, calls Adam Pearce a "clown" (Exclusive)
Former WCW Champion Vince Russo has pitched the idea of Randy Orton possibly returning as an on-screen authority figure in WWE.
The Viper has been out of action due to mounting injuries for over a year now. While his father, Bob Orton Jr's, recent comments don't give much hope about his in-ring return, it remains to be seen what lies ahead for him in WWE. Amid this, Vince Russo has pitched a fascinating new role for Randy Orton on TV.
On Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Outlaws, Russo explained that WWE needs to bring back Orton as an authority figure. He even took shots at the current on-screen authority figure, Adam Pearce, calling him a "clown." Vince Russo thinks the promotion needs to have someone in power who everyone fears.
"Let's bring him (Randy Orton) back this way. Let's get back to the Authority figure. Change the name. Maybe he's just called WWE Law. Let's get back to the serious guy running the joint where you don't have that clown Adam Pearce and people aren't making their own matches. Let's bring back a serious person running the show, running the company that you aren't going to f with," said Vince Russo.
Furthermore, Russo added that Orton could bring things under control as, currently, wrestlers often announce matches for themselves on TV. He believes there's a need to fill that position with a person who commands respect.
"Bro, the promos he could cut. He could get physical with people without them laying a hand on him. He could really get back over that way. That's what is needed, bro. Other than the clown show, where you got a guy running the show that's got no respect, everyone's making their own matches right and left. No, bro, let's bring law and order back to the show. He's the guy to do that," added Vince Russo. [3:47 - 4:51]

Teddy Long wants Randy Orton in a backstage role
On a recent episode of The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, Teddy Long explained that since Randy Orton has made enough money, he should focus on nurturing the talent of tomorrow. Long added that The Viper could go down to NXT and work closely with new stars the way Shawn Michaels does.
"If Randy is pretty much set, and the other thing you said about him taking somebody under his wing and helping him out. That's what I would do if I was this guy. Randy is still a young man; he's still got a long future. That's what I would do. If I were him, I would go to maybe NXT, take a job there, and help some of the young kids and show them the right way. Randy is another guy who knows how this works, and that's why you gotta have people like him, Shawn Michaels, or Terry Taylor," said Long.
Considering just how highly regarded Randy Orton is, he could become an endless source of knowledge for the newer generation of performers in WWE.
