[VIDEO] Brazilian commentary team spoils major debut for WWE SmackDown and seemingly confirms rumors
In a rather awkward moment on the Brazilian broadcast of WWE SmackDown on October 4, 2024, the commentary team spoiled a major debut that was teased and seemingly confirmed by prior rumors. There was a vignette that was played on the first SmackDown of October, showing police car lights, two silhouettes of men walking, and figures from Detroit City as well as the city itself.
It was instantly speculated that it was a teaser for the debut of the legendary veteran duo the Motor City Machine Guns. Mike Johnson of PWInsider was quick to report that it was, in fact, an advertisement for the team of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin.
As posted by @FadeAwayMedia on X/Twitter, you can see and hear the Brazilian commentary team directly stating that the vignette was for the debut of the Motor City Machine Guns, confirming the rumors.
Does the Motor City Machine Guns going to SmackDown mean that The Lucha Brothers could be going to RAW?
Not only are The Lucha Brothers, which consists of Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr., heavily rumored to be signing with WWE, but they are reportedly main roster-bound as well.
The two reported major signings, namely the Motor City Machine Guns and The Lucha Bros, are massive for WWE and a statement that they intend to take the tag team division seriously.
While we have seen glimpses of tag team brilliance in the last decade with feuds like The New Day vs. The Usos, Vince McMahon was always known to not be a big fan of tag team wrestling as he looked at it from a business perspective where he was paying four people for one match.
On the October 4, 2024, episode of SmackDown, The Bloodline's Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa retained the WWE Tag Team Championship against DIY and the Street Profits in an incredible ladder match. It is only one of many examples of just how much of an appetite there is for tag team wrestling and the relatively new WWE regime seems to recognize that well.
It is going to be interesting to see how The Lucha Bros perform on the main roster if they are officially signed and how they manage to shake up the RAW tag team division if they join the red brand.
Unfortunately, the World Tag Team Championship reign of Finn Balor and JD McDonagh has been criticized for being an afterthought on the show. Fans have pointed out that it is hardly a background prop when it should be getting highlighted more.
