Vince McMahon would not have approved current title reign, WWE veteran says (Exclusive)
Vince McMahon oversaw WWE's creative direction for 40 years between 1982 and 2022. Vince Russo, WWE's head writer in the late 1990s, recently offered his opinion on what McMahon might think of Logan Paul's United States Championship reign.
Under Triple H's creative leadership, Paul has only defended the US title twice since dethroning Rey Mysterio in November 2023. The Maverick will put the gold on the line in his hometown of Cleveland against LA Knight at SummerSlam on August 3.
Russo wrote for WWE when McMahon enforced a rule that champions had to defend their titles at least once every 30 days. On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo, he said his former boss would not have approved Paul's current title storyline:
"No, that wouldn't happen, bro," Russo stated. "I think we were pretty much sticking to the 30-day rule, to be honest with you." [1:38 – 1:46]

Vince McMahon's booking of Logan Paul compared to Triple H
In April 2022, Logan Paul teamed up with The Miz at WrestleMania 38 to defeat Dominik and Rey Mysterio on his in-ring debut. Two months later, Vince McMahon handed over creative responsibilities to his son-in-law Triple H amid misconduct allegations.
Paul defeated The Miz in July 2022 at SummerSlam. Technically, the premium live event was the first of the Triple H era. However, several SummerSlam storylines were already in place when The Game took over.
With Triple H in charge, Paul has faced major stars including Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins. He also recently became the longest-reigning United States Champion since Dean Ambrose's 351-day reign ended in May 2014.
