Vince Russo reveals why he bashed Jey Uso following Rikishi's angry response (Exclusive)
Former WWE writer Vince Russo recently discussed why he negatively commented on Jey Uso following his Intercontinental Championship win. Russo had to explain his comments after Rikishi got angry at him.
Jey Uso has become one of the biggest babyfaces in WWE. For many months, fans eagerly awaited to see The Yeet Master with a major singles title around his waist. The Triple H-led promotion finally put the WWE Intercontinental Championship on Jey as he defeated Bron Breakker.
However, wrestling veteran Vince Russo was not happy with Jey Uso getting extremely emotional during a promo while opening Monday Night RAW. Russo was later bashed by Rikishi, who did not like the former WWE writer's comments about his son.
During the latest episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Coach and Bro Wrestling Show on Backstage Pass, Vince Russo revealed that he negatively critiqued Jey Uso's WWE RAW segment because, as a writer, he believed the show should have opened with a bang, but The Yeet Master's promo was not at a high level.
"What I was doing is what I do every week. I critique the shows. I critique RAW, I critique SmackDown, I get paid to critique [these shows]. Let me be clear about that. So, what I was doing was critiquing a show and Jey [Uso's] promo, I am a fan of Jey, [he] is over to the moon, I've never said anything bad about the guy. If you go back and watch that promo, the promo was bad TV. It was very bad TV. He was so emotional bro, he could hardly speak. He kept picking up the mic, saying a few words, [and] putting it down," he said.
Russo added that it was not the first time he had critiqued a wrestler for being emotional, again emphasizing how a television show should start.
"Bro, I'm a writer, I was trained man, when a television show starts that's when you grab the viewers, bro. That's when it's balls to the wall bro. You're setting the tone for the entire night in that first five minutes of a show... So, I am critiquing a television show and bro this is not the first time I've spoken about a talent getting emotional over winning a title. I've spoken about this many, many times before... In my opinion as a writer and a producer, this was bad TV," he added. [5:47 - 7:39]
