Vince Russo reveals what Triple H told Ryback (Exclusive)

Ryback has told many stories about conversations he had with Triple H during his WWE career. Vince Russo, WWE's former head writer, recently gave his take on a remark The Game once made about the future of the company's top stars.

Between the mid-2000s and mid-2010s, John Cena was presented as WWE's top full-time babyface attraction. In previous generations, main event storylines often revolved around legends including Hulk Hogan, The Rock, and Steve Austin.

Russo appeared on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws alongside host Dr. Chris Featherstone and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion EC3. Recalling a past interaction with Ryback, the veteran writer said Triple H once told The Big Guy that WWE would never revolve around one person again:

"Bro, I don't believe that guy [Ryback] lies about anything. The reason he don't have a job in the wrestling business is because he is a straight shooter. That's why he don't have a job in the wrestling business. Triple H told Ryback, 'There will never, ever be another John Cena.' In other words, there will never be another wrestler who is bigger than the company." [0:35 – 1:00]

Vince Russo on the consequences of Triple H's WWE comment

In July 2022, Triple H replaced his father-in-law Vince McMahon as WWE's creative figurehead.

Many fans have praised the on-screen product since the 14-time world champion began overseeing RAW and SmackDown. However, Vince Russo thinks too many wrestlers are booked to win and lose a similar number of matches. As a result, they struggle to gain enough popularity to become top stars.

"That's where the 50/50 booking comes in, bro," Russo continued. "Ever since he said it, we've seen it, bro. We've seen everybody do this [stay at the same level]. Everybody." [1:01 – 1:15]

In 2016, Ryback left WWE after rejecting a new contract. The 42-year-old is best remembered for his Intercontinental Championship reign and run in the main event scene in late 2012 and early 2013. He was also an original member of the Nexus faction.
