Watch: Carmella shares unseen vignette of her nixed WWE character
Since March 2023, Carmella has been off WWE television. While it started as maternity leave owing to her pregnancy, it appears she is not in a hurry to return to the squared circle. The first-ever Women's Money in the Bank winner recently discussed on social media why she disliked her short-lived "untouchable" gimmick.
Carmella briefly portrayed this character during the pandemic while she was embroiled in a feud with Mercedes Mone (then Sasha Banks), but WWE wound up scrapping all plans for it. Taking to X/Twitter, she shared her original vision:
"this was my original vision for untouchable carmella..," Carmella wrote.
The former SmackDown Women's Champion's last television was against Bianca Belair in March 2023. Prior to her taking time off, she also competed in the Women's Elimination Chamber match to determine then-champion Belair's WrestleMania challenger. Asuka ultimately eliminated her after it came down to them as the final two in the contest.
Maxxine Dupri expresses her unique admiration for the absent WWE Superstar
In April, Carmella revealed on social media that part of the reason she has not made her WWE return is because she has an injured foot and is not capable of getting back to the gym yet. However, the former Women's Champion stays active on social media with her peers.
During a Q&A session with Cageside Seats last summer, Maxxine Dupri was asked whether she ever got to pick the brain of The Princess of Staten Island. Both of them arrived in World Wrestling Entertainment on similar paths, as a former dancer, Patriots cheerleader, Laker girl, and now a WWE Superstar.
"Yeah, she [Carmella] was one of the women that I really admired on Total Divas and that’s where I realized she had the same background as me and watching her journey was so special," Maxxine admitted. "She’s such a beautiful soul, inside and out. And I’m so excited for her and this new journey that she’s on. I love watching her on social media. I’m also excited for her to come back one day and I hope that I get to share the ring with her. She’s someone that I really, really want to work with, because we have such similar backgrounds. I’m excited for it."
Carmella has been able to accomplish much within her short time in WWE thus far. It remains to be seen if she steps back into the ring to continue her eventful wrestling career.
