"We're not even gonna have a wrestling match" - Kurt Angle confirms being upset with WWE legend at WrestleMania
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently revealed that he was upset with a fellow legend at WrestleMania 22. Angle confirmed that he was angry at Rey Mysterio before their Triple Threat Match with Randy Orton in Chicago for the World Heavyweight Championship.
The Olympic gold medalist entered WrestleMania 22 as the World Heavyweight Champion. Mysterio won the Royal Rumble match to earn the opportunity to face Angle, while Orton slithered his way into the feud after beating the masked star at No Way Out.
On the latest episode of WWE Playback on YouTube, Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio looked back at their match at Saturday Night's Main Event in 2006 before WrestleMania 22. They teamed up with Orton to face John Cena and Triple H in an odd Handicap Match.
During the episode, Angle revealed that he was not happy with Mysterio's entrance at WrestleMania 22. He was upset that their match time was cut shorter because of it.
"What I was upset about was your damn entrance (laughs). Our match got cut, and your entrance had to be eight minutes long. And I was like, 'My gosh, we're not even gonna have a wrestling match.' But it actually turned out to be a great match... We had to pick it up. (The entrance) was freaking cool, but I was so mad. You went all the way up, I'm like, ‘Is he gonna get out in the ring?’" Kurt Angle said. [From 2:45 - 3:19]
Rey Mysterio's entrance was performed live by P.O.D., with the legendary wrestler climbing up the prop stage while wearing an elaborate costume. The match might have been cut short, but Mysterio pinned Randy Orton to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
Kurt Angle thinks Roman Reigns is the best wrestler today
Kurt Angle officially retired at WrestleMania 35 after losing to Baron Corbin. He has kept up with WWE over the years and recently named Roman Reigns as the best wrestler today.
"Roman, I will say, he is the best wrestler today. Roman caught on and started improving very quickly and learning, and he continuously got better and better, and then he became the best. Right now, he's red-hot. He could be the biggest babyface in the company or the biggest heel, depending on what he chooses to do," Angle told USA Today.
Reigns barely wrestled for the majority of 2024 but was in many big matches, like at WrestleMania 40 and Survivor Series: WarGames. There's some uncertainty regarding his status heading into next year when WWE RAW moves to Netflix.
