"We’re not Seth Rollins" - Gunther's past victim opens up after massive loss at WWE SummerSlam
Gunther and Seth Rollins had a field day at WWE SummerSlam where they both got the limelight. In a recent interview, The Ring General’s victim opened up about his opportunity at SummerSlam.
Fans saw Seth Rollins officiate the match between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk. The Visionary’s inclusion in the match ensured it didn’t have a perfectly clean outcome.
Meanwhile, Damian Priest walked into WWE SummerSlam as the World Heavyweight Champion. He lost the title to Gunther after being betrayed by his former factionmate, Finn Balor.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, The Archer of Infamy noted that losing the title is guaranteed once you win it. However, getting the opportunity to walk into SummerSlam as the World Heavyweight Champion was huge for him.
"It’s inevitable,” said the WWE star. “When you win this belt, the only guarantee is you’re going to lose it. But I’m not losing sight of what we accomplished. I’m the world champ walking into SummerSlam–that’s crazy."
Damian Priest also noted that neither he, nor The Ring General, were on the level of men like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk. However, they worked hard to get the opportunity to give it their best in a title match at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
"And forget for a moment about everything Gunther has said to me and what I’ve said to him. We’re not part of that class of the main guys. We’re seen as strong characters on TV, but we’re not Seth Rollins, we’re not Punk, we’re not Drew or Roman. We’re not the regularly scheduled programmed guys. AJ, Randy, Finn, we’re none of those guys. The fact it was Gunther and me in this high-profile world title match, that’s big. There were so many boys and girls in the locker room who were like, ‘One of us made it.’ That was my favorite part, hearing my peers talk about when it meant to them," Damian Priest added.
The Ring General will hope to enjoy an even longer title reign than Damian Priest. Many WWE fans will hope to see him break Seth Rollins’ record of 316 days with the new title around his waist.
Gunther will face Randy Orton soon but Seth Rollins will be lurking in the shadows
Several dream matches are awaiting many top stars on RAW and SmackDown. WWE fans have recently seen Gunther compete against some names whom he had never touched before.
A major singles match waiting to happen will be between Gunther and Seth Rollins. Both are seen as top stars on RAW and have a good reputation in the ring.
The creative team could keep the World Heavyweight Championship on Gunther long enough for Seth Rollins to challenge him down the line. Rollins failed to take the title off Damian Priest at Money in the Bank, but that doesn’t mean he can’t get another match now that Priest has lost the title. Rollins is currently reported to be out with an injury but one can expect him to go after the world title once he is done with CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, and Bronson Reed.
Meanwhile, Gunther is slated to face Randy Orton at Bash in Berlin for the World Heavyweight Title. The bout will not be an easy one for The Imperium leader but the star rarely backs out of a fight.
WWE fans will be hoping for some huge matches down the line. It remains to be seen how things pan out.
