"We really thought we were being ribbed"- Trish Stratus reflects on being part of a historic moment in WWE

Trish Stratus has recalled making history with her longtime friend Lita. The two stars wrestled in the main event of the December 6, 2004, episode of RAW, becoming the first women to do so.

The Extreme Diva defeated the Canadian star at the show to become a two-time WWE Women's Champion. They are regarded as two of the greatest female wrestlers of all time, and they inspired many women to follow in their footsteps by pursuing a career in professional wrestling.

During a recent interview with Scott Fishman of TVInsider, Trish Stratus looked back on the match and revealed how she and Lita were told they would be headlining RAW for the first time.

"It was interesting because at first we weren’t talked to by anybody. We walked into the building. We walked in to see the card listed. We were like, 'What?' We saw our names listed as number one, the main event. We literally thought the boys were hiding behind the curtain. We really thought we were being ribbed. We weren’t. It was a true thing. We walked in the hallways, and people were telling us congratulations. We got to thinking this was a really big deal," she said. [H/T TVInsider]

Trish Stratus says she and Lita got a standing ovation backstage after the match

The two stars' match was memorable, and many fans still talk about it today. They also had a legendary feud that year.

Trish Stratus stated that when they went backstage, Vince McMahon and other stars gave them a standing ovation.

"Standing ovation in gorilla position from Vince and all the boys and girls in the back. It was a very big moment for us. We delivered. For sure, people were questioning if we could handle this. The fact we did deliver was huge. It was big for us. It was big for the women knowing this could mean big things moving forward,” she recalled. [H/T TVInsider]

At WrestleMania 39, Trish Stratus and Lita joined forces with Becky Lynch to take on Damage CTRL in a 6-woman tag team match, which they won.
