"Who's next?" - 29-year-old WWE star asks bold question following major loss
A 29-year-old WWE Superstar is wondering who is next to challenge him after suffering a major loss this past Friday night on SmackDown. The King and Queen of the Ring tournaments will be continuing on tonight's episode of RAW in North Carolina.
Carmelo Hayes was selected in the first round of this year's WWE Draft by SmackDown. He defeated Baron Corbin in the King of the Tournament but was eliminated in the Quarterfinals this past Friday night on the blue brand. Randy Orton picked up the victory and will be facing Tama Tonga on Friday night. The winner of the match will go on to the finals of the tournament at WWE King and Queen of the Ring this Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
Ahead of tonight's episode of RAW, Carmelo Hayes took to social media to wonder who he will be facing next following his loss to Randy Orton.
"Who’s next? #Smackdown," he wrote.
Bill Apter believes WWE made a mistake by having Carmelo Hayes lose on SmackDown
Wrestling journalist Bill Apter was not a fan of Carmelo Hayes losing to Cody Rhodes earlier this month on SmackDown.
The former NXT Champion tried to make an impact on the main roster right away but came up short against Cody Rhodes. Speaking on Sportskeeda's UnSKripted show, Apter claimed he thought it was a mistake to hand Hayes a loss so early in his main roster career. He said he would have preferred a controversial finish to extend their rivalry.
"No, to me, I think Cody is a, he is a student/professional wrestler. He likes the back and forth and for the guy to give him some trouble, and he comes back and holds. I think it made it look competitive, competitive. But I hated to see Carmelo Hayes lose on the first night in there officially... I hated to see him pinned. I would rather have some sort of controversial ending so they could have done it again." [37:24 onwards]

Carmelo Hayes has already gotten under Bobby Lashley's skin on WWE SmackDown as well. However, The All Mighty is out with an injury and was pulled from this year's King of the Ring tournament.
