Why Cody Rhodes could lose his WWE title to Randy Orton before WrestleMania explained by ex-host

He's been the Undisputed WWE Champion since WrestleMania, but former host Matt Camp would not mind seeing Cody Rhodes lose the belt to Randy Orton. The former Legacy stablemates are currently on the same side as Rhodes is gearing up to team up with Roman Reigns against The Bloodline at Bad Blood.

This past week on SmackDown, Orton stopped Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens from coming to blows, and thus far, The Viper has been an able peacemaker.

On a recent edition of the Busted Open podcast, Matt Camp said he wanted Randy Orton to turn heel on Cody Rhodes and go on to win the world championship. WWE has already teased a turn, and Camp felt Rhodes could briefly drop the title to Orton before winning it back on the Road to WrestleMania.

The booking direction would give WWE time to flesh out Cody Rhodes' story. Camp explained:

"I would not mind at all if a maniacal, downright dirty Randy Orton could take the championship away from Cody Rhodes. I'd be good with that. I'd believe that. I didn't think Randy was going to beat Gunther, but I believe that a heel Randy Orton is exactly the kind of foil Cody Rhodes needs between now and WrestleMania." [From 27:01 onwards]

Matt Camp wants Cody Rhodes away from WWE's Bloodline story

Since he first challenged for the world title against Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes has always found himself in a heated fight with The Bloodline. He and Reigns are now working together to take down Solo Sikoa's group.

Matt Camp is seemingly done seeing The American Nightmare associated with The Bloodline saga. The former host of The Bump urged the company to consider having a fresh angle involving Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, which, he said, would be the ideal high-profile world title storyline before WrestleMania:

"I want to see Cody away from The Bloodline story. I want to see the worst version of Randy Orton as a human being. I want to see that guy because I do believe Randy Orton could take the championship from Cody Rhodes. I think Cody would win it back. I think Cody would be the champion going into WrestleMania next year." [26:38 - 27:00]

WWE could pull the trigger on Cody Rhodes' next big title feud after Bad Blood, and like Matt Camp, many others might be waiting for that Randy Orton rivalry to get underway.
