Wrestling legend backs CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre angle, despite heavy criticism from former WWE employee

Wrestling legend Konnan recently spoke about the feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. The two stars have become bitter rivals over the last few months building up to SummerSlam.

Former WCW President and RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff, on his podcast 83 Weeks, recently commented that the Punk vs. Drew McIntyre feud had fizzled out. He detailed that the angle has dragged on for too long and fans have cooled down on the rivalry.

During a recent episode of Keepin' IT 100, the veteran acknowledged that Bischoff had a fair opinion but came out supporting WWE. Konnan felt the creative team did a great job of building the feud by having the two stars not get too physical. According to him, they worked around CM Punk's injury and still came out with compelling angles, forcing the fans to watch week after week.

"He does make some valid points but my rebuttal to that would be they've done a great job as long as Punk hasn't been able to wrestle, with the interferences, the good promos, the pull aparts, when Drew attacked him and he got suspended. They've done an excellent job. So if anything, I give creative kudos to be put in that bind and still be able to make this work." [From 3:20 - 3:45]

CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will square off at SummerSlam

This past week on RAW, General Manager Adam Pearce prevented a physical altercation between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.

Punk came down to the ring itching for a fight after his doctors had cleared him. He taped up his hands and called out Drew asking him to fight. Although The Scottish Warrior walked out, he was in no mood to get physical. Pearce also intervened and announced that the two stars would meet at SummerSlam.

He warned both men against laying hands on each other before their blockbuster clash. Pearce also announced that Seth Rollins would be the special guest referee during the encounter.
